Meal 7: Spaghetti alla puttanesca

Jamie’s 30 minute meals- week 7

This week’s meal was not my favourite compared to the others however my parents said they liked it but still wasn’t there favourite so far. The pasta was extremely salty (something I would expect my fussy little sister to eat because she loves salty foods such as olives except she didn’t like it).  The salad was refreshing yet not my favourite so far. The garlic bread was so easy to make and good to.. But the standout of this dish was definitely the ganache it was delicious! The full meal is:

  • Spaghetti alla puttanesca
  • Crunchy salad
  • Garlic Bread
  • Silky chocolate ganache

Spaghetti alla Puttanesca

This pasta is extremely salty.  If you are not a fan of salt such as me you probably won’t be able to eat much of it. It is also packed with flavour. It is not a pasta most people would usually have which is good for a change. This pasta was also very easy to make. You simply cook your pasta, combine all the ingredients in the frypan and then coat the pasta in the sauce!

Crunchy salad

This salad I did not really like because I am not a fan of fennel and radishes. My parents say it is refreshing though and it was perfect to go with the pasta. Very easy to make and this can be made within 5 minutes. Perfect for a week night.

Garlic bread

The garlic bread is really tasty and super easy to make. You just cut the bread ¾ of the way through then mix your ingredients together and then stuff the cuts with the ingredients and rub on top! I will be making this garlic bread on week nights when I get home late to go with some pasta!

Silky chocolate ganache

This is delicious! My fussy little sister even enjoyed a little bit. This is definitely the best dessert so far. When I first got this book my mum and I went through it and this dessert stood out. With this dessert we had a selection of fruits we found at our local fruit and vegetable store, If you cannot find palmiers don’t worry just use some sweet biscuits you think will go good with it.

The timing of this meal was approximately 35 minutes

Meal 6: Summer Veg Lasange

Jamie's 30 minute meals- week 6

The whole family enjoyed this meal! Everything was differen't to what I would usually eat and make and it turned out great! The lasagne was delicous and we are planning on makeing it agai in a few weeks to take up to the snow. The salad was very tasty and I really liked it. Then the frozen yoghurt was super quick and delicous and my family is excited because we have enough ingredients to make it again! The full recipe is:

  • Summer Veg Lasgne
  • Tuscan Tomato salad
  • Quick mango frozen yoghurt in baby cornets

Summer Veg Lasgne

I do not usually like greens however this was delicious! I love lasagne however I don't really like vegtable lasgne. This though was delicous and because there was only really three of us who ate this there was heaps left over which we ate in our lunch the next day. It is something differn't to what I would usually eat and I loved it. In a few weeks when we go to the snow we are going to make this to take up and eat there.

Tuscan tomato salad

I loved this salad! It was really tasty and differn't. The bread was slitly crunchy yet very soft and soggy. It was delicious and the whole family enjoyed it (not including my fussy little sister she dosn't eat anything). I am not a big fan of tomato however I did not mind it at all in this salad. It was quite easy to make you simply cooked the bread then hack the ret of the ingredients up then mix it all together and put in a bowl. Easy and tasty!

Quick mango frozen yoghurt in baby cornets

This desert is one of the simplest and freshest I have ever have! Before I watched JAMIE'S 30 MINUTE MEALS I quickly made this then put it all in the freezer.  I could not find any small ice cream cornets so I just bought some large ones then cut them down to a suitable size with a cerated edged knife. With some desserts you just want more and more however my whole family (including my fussy little sister!) felt full after one cornet.Overall the whole family loved this dessert!

Timing

The timing for this meal was aproximately 30 minutes.

Out of ten I rated this dish 9.5 out of 10

Meal 5: Wonky Summer pasta

Jamie's 30 minute meals- week 5

I loved this weeks meal it was very tasty. My fussy little sisters friend Lucy came around this week and had dinner with us. We still had heaps of leftovers and we just had to make a bit more of the dessert. The pasta was very strong in flavour. I really enjoyed the salad. And every one enjoyed the dessert except for my mum who thought it was to sweet. But over all I think this was one of the best meals yet! The full recipe is:

  • Wonky summer pasta
  • Heby Salad
  • Pear drop tartlets

Wonky summer pasta

This pasta you need to eat straight away.I found this out by having it in my lunch the next day it did not taste as delicious as the night before. In the recipe it said to use two eggs however if you look at the photography you will relise he used three. This worked out great though because since my fussy little sister had her friend lucy around we made a bit more of the desert. A nice fresh pasta however if you make this dish depending on the size of the lemon don't use two because it tasted extremely lemonly. So depending on the size of your lemon don't add as much lemon.

Herby salad

I loved the salad. Lucy said she dosn't really enjoy salad usually however with this one everyone wanted more! I liked the grapes in it, we wouldn't usually have grapes in our salad however it was a pleasent suprise. I really like panchetta and Lucy tried it for her first time and really enjoyed it. The herbs were tasty. Overall this salad was fantastic and Lucywas telling her parents about it when she was being picked up.

Pear Drop Tartlets

These tartlets were delicious! We had plenty of meringue mixture left over which we used to make some extra meringues for lunch the next day. You do not need to muchjam because it can make it extremely sweet. I think my mum got a tart with a lot of jam because she found it extremely sweet. I could not find some really fresh pear so I just used the little SPC pear packs and drained them and it turned out great. Everyone wanted more of this dessert and I will be making it again!

Timing

The timing for this dish was aproximately 30 minutes it was one of the fastest dishes yet!

Meal 4: Trapani-style Rigatoni

Jamie's 30 minute meals- week 4

This weeks meal I unfortunetely couldn't eat all of it because of the alcohol in the dessert. However I really liked the rocket salad but I didn't make the chicory salad because I could not find any or any other foods that could substitute it so I left it out. The pasta was delicious. the ciabatta was really easy and tasty you just rubbed in thyme and olive oil wrap it in foil and put it in the oven. The full recipe is:

  • Trapani-style Rigatoni
  • Grilled chicory salad (I didn't make this)
  • Rocket and parmasan salad
  • Limoncello kinda trifle (I couldn't eat this)

Trapani-style Rigatoni

I really enjoyed this pasta. My fussy little sister again did not eat it. However the rest of the family enjoyed it. It was quite nutty in flavour but I enjoyed it. The sauce was easy to make, you put some things in the processor and whiz until fine then add the rest of the ingredents and whiz. It wasn't my absolute favourite but I still enjoyed it.

Rocket and Parmasan salad

This salad was easy to make. Except we don't have a speedpeeler and so I had to grate it and it took quite a while to grate all the parmasan. A part from that it was really easy and tasty and I will make this again.

Limoncello kinda trifle

I could not eat this because of the alcohol. However it was super easy to make, and my mum and dad say it was delicious. And they want me to make it again. So I am guessing it was quite good.

Timing

The timing for this meal was around 30 minutes.

Meal 3: Cauliflower Macaroni

Jamie's 30 minute meals- week 3

This weeks meal was delicious! A few months ago I made normal macaroni and the whole family loved it. This time we loved it again! However this time it had way more flavour and was even better. The chicory salad was probably my least favourite salad out of all of the ones I have made. And the stewed fruit was delicious however, if you make the fruit ideally you should make it in summer (becuase the fruit is in season.) The recipe is:

  • Cauliflower Macaroni
  • Chicory salad with insane dressing
  • Lovely stewed fruit

Cauliflower Macaroni

This was delicious. The macaroni could probably feed 8 because we only had 3 (and my fussy little sister who would just eat three tablespoons then act like she was full and say it was delious.) And we didn't even eat half of it. I loved the savoury breadcrumb mix on top which gave the meal a heap more flavour. I also couldn't taste the cauliflower, if you gave it to some one who didn't know it was in there and they coudn't see the lumps in there tey would probably guess there was none in there!

Chicory Salad with Insane Dressing

Again we could not find chicory so we just used mixed salad leaves. The salad was quite bitter and salty. I am not a fan of either of these tastes and so I did not enjoy it. You could probably make a hea of the dressing if you really liked it and keep it in the fridge. I personally will not make this salad again because I  have prefered others.

 Lovely Stewed fruit

At the moment it is winter and so there is not a great range of stoned fruit and the ones shipped here are quite expensive so we decided to use pears. It was delicious however it took about 1 hour to cook them because they were hard and weren't the right kind of fruit. But the end product was delicious! To make this dessert great you really need good vanilla bean ice cream I fortunatly recieved an ice cream maker lately and so I made a delicious ice cream which just made it even better.

Timing

I can't exactly tell you the timing because we had to cook it around the masterchef grand final but I think it would take about  30 minutes if I tried again with out having to watch masterchef except for the pears but we used the wrong kind of fruit.

Out of ten I rated this dish 8 out of 10

Meal 2: Pregnant Jools's Pasta

Jamies's 30 Minute Meals - week 2

This Meal I loved. Again this meal wouldn't be one I personally would choose because it isn't a stand out, there are others I would have chosen over it. However I really enjoyed it. We had to go visit my grandpa halfway through though, so this recipe was great, I could just get the mixtures ready and when we came home I just had to cook everything. The full recipe is :

  • Pregnant Jools's pasta
  • Crunchy chickory and watercress salad
  • Little frangipane tarts

Pregnant Jools's Pasta

The pasta sauce was very simple to make, you pretty much just put all your ingredients in the food processor and turn it on, adding your sausages, fennel seeds and oregano later. The pasta I loved, It was delicious. It was also great because I just had to blend all the in grediants together and then since I had to visit my pa when I came back I just had to cook the pasta, heat up the sauce, mix it together and then it was ready!

Crunchy Chickory and Watercress salad

I unfortunetely could not find any chickory and so I left it out. You can purchase chickory here in Australia however my mum says that in the UK chickory could be something we pronunce different here. However I am not a hundred percent sure what that vegetable is.The salad still turned out great! I loved the lemon and parmasan flavours with the watercress.

Little Frangipane Tarts

The frangipane tarts were delicious!I had tiny tart cases so I managed to make twelve, this was not a problem though it just meant great dessert the next night! The whole family enjoyed this dessert including my fussy little sister which we were all pleased about. They took a bit of time to put together but well worth it! I made the mixture then when I came home I just put them together. A tip with the tarts is to not put them in the oven until your nearly ready to eat them, otherwise they can be cold.

Timing

Unfortunetly I can not tell you the timing because I had to go visit my pa. However it took no longer then 45 minutes.

Out of ten I rated this dish an 9 out of 10

Meal 1: Broccoli Orecchiette!

Jamie's 30 Minute Meals - Week 1

Hi, this meal was not one I personally would choose since my least favourite vegetable is broccoli and I am not a fan of rock melon however I loved it! The full recipe is:

  • broccoli orecchiette
  • courgette and bocconcini salad
  • prosciutto and melon salad

Broccoli Orecchiette

In the pasta I could hardly taste the broccoli since there were so many salty foods and parmasan cheese in it.

Courgette and Bocconcini Salad

The courgette salad (or zuccini salad) I didn't really enjoy however my parents liked it and so if you like courgettes, a bit of chilli and bocconcini (baby mozzerella balls) I am sure you will like this salad.

Prosciutto and Melon Salad

The prosciutto and melon salad I loved! However next time I am not going to add so much balsamic vinegar. I love pancetta and prosciutto and I didn't mind the rock melon since the one I used had a lot of taste in it because if you don't get a good one they taste very bland.

Timing

Time wise the dish took me about 35-40 minutes to make however I think that is because I started cooking late since I had been out all day so a good tip is to read the recipe before you begin! However it was worth time and I really want to cook this meal again!

Out of ten I rated this meal an 8 out of 10
