Meal 5: Wonky Summer pasta

Jamie's 30 minute meals- week 5

I loved this weeks meal it was very tasty. My fussy little sisters friend Lucy came around this week and had dinner with us. We still had heaps of leftovers and we just had to make a bit more of the dessert. The pasta was very strong in flavour. I really enjoyed the salad. And every one enjoyed the dessert except for my mum who thought it was to sweet. But over all I think this was one of the best meals yet! The full recipe is:

  • Wonky summer pasta
  • Heby Salad
  • Pear drop tartlets

Wonky summer pasta

This pasta you need to eat straight away.I found this out by having it in my lunch the next day it did not taste as delicious as the night before. In the recipe it said to use two eggs however if you look at the photography you will relise he used three. This worked out great though because since my fussy little sister had her friend lucy around we made a bit more of the desert. A nice fresh pasta however if you make this dish depending on the size of the lemon don't use two because it tasted extremely lemonly. So depending on the size of your lemon don't add as much lemon.

Herby salad

I loved the salad. Lucy said she dosn't really enjoy salad usually however with this one everyone wanted more! I liked the grapes in it, we wouldn't usually have grapes in our salad however it was a pleasent suprise. I really like panchetta and Lucy tried it for her first time and really enjoyed it. The herbs were tasty. Overall this salad was fantastic and Lucywas telling her parents about it when she was being picked up.

Pear Drop Tartlets

These tartlets were delicious! We had plenty of meringue mixture left over which we used to make some extra meringues for lunch the next day. You do not need to muchjam because it can make it extremely sweet. I think my mum got a tart with a lot of jam because she found it extremely sweet. I could not find some really fresh pear so I just used the little SPC pear packs and drained them and it turned out great. Everyone wanted more of this dessert and I will be making it again!

Meal 4: Trapani-style Rigatoni

Jamie's 30 minute meals- week 4

This weeks meal I unfortunetely couldn't eat all of it because of the alcohol in the dessert. However I really liked the rocket salad but I didn't make the chicory salad because I could not find any or any other foods that could substitute it so I left it out. The pasta was delicious. the ciabatta was really easy and tasty you just rubbed in thyme and olive oil wrap it in foil and put it in the oven. The full recipe is:

  • Trapani-style Rigatoni
  • Grilled chicory salad (I didn't make this)
  • Rocket and parmasan salad
  • Limoncello kinda trifle (I couldn't eat this)

Trapani-style Rigatoni

I really enjoyed this pasta. My fussy little sister again did not eat it. However the rest of the family enjoyed it. It was quite nutty in flavour but I enjoyed it. The sauce was easy to make, you put some things in the processor and whiz until fine then add the rest of the ingredents and whiz. It wasn't my absolute favourite but I still enjoyed it.

Rocket and Parmasan salad

This salad was easy to make. Except we don't have a speedpeeler and so I had to grate it and it took quite a while to grate all the parmasan. A part from that it was really easy and tasty and I will make this again.

Limoncello kinda trifle

I could not eat this because of the alcohol. However it was super easy to make, and my mum and dad say it was delicious. And they want me to make it again. So I am guessing it was quite good.

Timing

The timing for this meal was around 30 minutes.

Meal 3: Cauliflower Macaroni

Jamie's 30 minute meals- week 3

This weeks meal was delicious! A few months ago I made normal macaroni and the whole family loved it. This time we loved it again! However this time it had way more flavour and was even better. The chicory salad was probably my least favourite salad out of all of the ones I have made. And the stewed fruit was delicious however, if you make the fruit ideally you should make it in summer (becuase the fruit is in season.) The recipe is:

  • Cauliflower Macaroni
  • Chicory salad with insane dressing
  • Lovely stewed fruit

Cauliflower Macaroni

This was delicious. The macaroni could probably feed 8 because we only had 3 (and my fussy little sister who would just eat three tablespoons then act like she was full and say it was delious.) And we didn't even eat half of it. I loved the savoury breadcrumb mix on top which gave the meal a heap more flavour. I also couldn't taste the cauliflower, if you gave it to some one who didn't know it was in there and they coudn't see the lumps in there tey would probably guess there was none in there!

Chicory Salad with Insane Dressing

Again we could not find chicory so we just used mixed salad leaves. The salad was quite bitter and salty. I am not a fan of either of these tastes and so I did not enjoy it. You could probably make a hea of the dressing if you really liked it and keep it in the fridge. I personally will not make this salad again because I  have prefered others.

 Lovely Stewed fruit

At the moment it is winter and so there is not a great range of stoned fruit and the ones shipped here are quite expensive so we decided to use pears. It was delicious however it took about 1 hour to cook them because they were hard and weren't the right kind of fruit. But the end product was delicious! To make this dessert great you really need good vanilla bean ice cream I fortunatly recieved an ice cream maker lately and so I made a delicious ice cream which just made it even better.

Timing

I can't exactly tell you the timing because we had to cook it around the masterchef grand final but I think it would take about  30 minutes if I tried again with out having to watch masterchef except for the pears but we used the wrong kind of fruit.
